Unlike traditional (alcoholic) spirits, which are often produced at scale using relatively straightforward techniques, Opius requires far more time, effort, and ingredients to achieve the same level of depth and complexity without relying on alcohol to carry flavor.
Every single bottle is handcrafted by Professor Dr. Sas, a true master distiller who is obsessed with our delicate and complex process. It takes over four weeks of focused hands-on work to create just 400 bottles.
We use a combination of advanced methods such as fermentation, hydro-distillation, tinctures, and long maceration, along with a vast quantity of herbs, spices, and botanicals. Because there's no alcohol to amplify flavor, we must use significantly more natural ingredients to achieve the same intensity.
In fact, Opius has more in common with a perfume than with a traditional spirit. Our process is inspired by a blend of ancient alchemy and modern science rooted in the world of perfumery, where layering, extraction, and molecular precision are key to building complexity and sensorial impact.
